There are 50 countries in Asia.

Asia is Earth’s largest and the most populous continent. It is located mainly in the eastern and northern hemispheres. The continent covers an area of 44,579,000 square kilometers, constituting around 30% of Earth’s total land area and 9% of Earth’s total surface area. Asia has been home to a majority of the human population and was the site of many of the first civilizations. The massive population of 4.5 billion people constitutes 60% of the world’s population. The continent is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on the east, the Indian Ocean on the south and the Arctic Ocean on the north.

Asia varies greatly across and within its regions with regard to ethnic groups, cultures, environments, historical ties, economics and government systems. There is a mix of many different climates ranging from the equatorial south via the hot desert in the middle-east, temperate areas in the east and the continental center to vast sub-arctic and polar areas in Siberia.

Asia has the second largest nominal GDP of all continents, after Europe but it is the largest when the measurement is done in terms of Purchasing Power Parity.

Asia is the largest continent in the world by a fair margin. It is rich in natural resources such as forests, petroleum, rice, water, fish, ice, copper, and silver. Manufacturing industries have traditionally been the strongest in the eastern and the south-eastern parts of Asia, particularly in places like China, India, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, and Singapore. The area of multinational corporations has been continually dominated by Japan and South Korea. As per the Citigroup, 9 out of 11 Global Growth Generator Countries, came from Asia, driven by population and income growth. The countries are Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Mongolia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. There are four financial centers in Asia: Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Outsourcing of businesses in an increased manner has contributed a lot towards the rise of India and China as financial centers. The extremely competitive and large information technology industry has been a major driving force towards India becoming a major destination for outsourcing.
